Camping Hacks: How To Make Sure You're A Happy Camper

by Ashley Kelley

So, you and your family have decided to go camping this upcoming weekend. However, someone isn't exactly thrilled (this may be you, your significant other or one of the kids). Whoever it may be, it may be possible to ensure that the experience is a fun and positive one with a few camping hacks. These camping hacks can also ensure that your camping trip goes smoothly, which is always a good thing, right? So, without further ado, here are four hacks that will help you and your entire family better enjoy the great outdoors:

1. Put Down Foam Floor Tiles for a Good Night's Rest.

Among the worst things about camping is sleeping on the hard ground. While you can lay down several thick blankets underneath your sleeping bag, it often just doesn't do the trick. However, what can help is foam floor tiles. These will put cushioning between you and the hard ground. You can also use blow up mattresses, which will add even more cushioning!

2. Get Light with a Jug of Water and Head Lamp.

When the sun goes down and you need some light, easily get the light that you need with a jug of water (or water bottle) and a head lamp (or a flash light). Simply strap the light to the jug and make sure that the light is facing inward toward the water. It's a great way to ensure that your tent is filled up with light without having to hold a flash light.

3. DIY Fire Starters.

If you aren't able to find anything to get a fire started with or are having difficulty, there are a few things that you may have on hand that can help or that you could simply make sure that you bring from home in the even that you find yourself in a bind. Some of these things include Doritos, hand sanitizer and dryer lint.

4. Keep the Mosquitoes Away with Sage or Rosemary.

When camping, mosquitoes can be one of the most annoying insects in the world. Since you don't want to be constantly slapping at yourself while on your trip, make sure that you pack some sage or rosemary and burn some over your campfire in order to repel the pesky little creatures.

The aforementioned hacks can definitely help make your trip a bit more pleasurable and enjoyable. However, to ensure that everyone is a happy camper on the camping trip, you will want to ensure that you have all the camping gear and essentials. Keep in mind that if you don't go camping often that you don't have to go out and purchase these items outright, as you can seek out a sporting goods store where you can rent camping equipment and supplies.
